Seven may be considered a lucky number, but it was not going to cut it with the Giants when they heard the Panthers offered Matt Rhule a seven-year contract.
Make no mistake, the Giants were very interested in the Baylor coach and could easily have envisioned him as their hire. They had spoken with him several times before his scheduled interview in New Jersey this past Tuesday. The interest was mutual.
But Rhule spoke with the Panthers on Monday in Waco, Texas, and that night was offered the job by billionaire owner David Tepper breaking the bank — not his bank, mind you — with a seven-year deal worth $62 million.
