Jason Pierre-Paul guaranteed $1.5M from Giants this season

Jason Pierre-Paul once was set to earn $14.813 million this season. Now, in the wake of his fireworks accident and restructured contract, he stands to make only a fraction of that.

The restructured, one-year contract, which Pierre-Paul signed on Tuesday, calls for the 26-year-old defense end to be guaranteed only $1.5 million, according to a source familiar with the deal. He could still earn significantly more than that, though, including another $1.5 million just for playing in the final seven games, the source said.

But it’s still a significant decrease from the “franchise tag” number he was originally promised when the Giants tagged him in February.
