In critical stretch, Giants have to remember where they came from

The Giants are proud of their winning tradition. Their four Super Bowl victories match the Patriots for the most Vince Lombardi trophies since 1986.

But lately the tradition has lived more on reputation than reality after three straight non-playoff seasons and missed playoffs in five of the past six years. The winning culture is more memory than mandate.

After the debacle last week at Dallas, the Giants enter Sunday’s home opener against the Falcons 0-1, and if this keeps up someone might be flying an airplane trailing a banner that reads something like: “15 years of lousy football … we’ve had enough.
