As covered recently, defenses in the NFL right now are using some different sub packages on third down situations. Both the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Giants are relying on defensive groupings with zero or one defensive lineman on the field. That puts more athletic linebackers in the game to generate pressure through quickness and different blitz packages.
That awaits Daniel Jones when the Giants square off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles has used a sub package of his own, relying on some 1-5-5 and some 1-4-6 groupings in the past few weeks.
