Giants shocked in closing seconds of mind-blowing shootout

NEW ORLEANS — In a game filled with big, bold things, it was the littlest of thing that did the Giants in Sunday in a most remarkable contest and, as it turns, an agonizing loss.

A wild shootout between Drew Brees (seven touchdown passes) and Eli Manning (six TD passes) was destined to go into overtime, but it did not. The Saints pulled even at 49 with 36 seconds left and then won the game, 52-49, on Kai Forbath’s 50-yard field goal as time expired.

Really.

The Giants went three-and-out on their last possession and punted the ball away.
