There are major hurdles in the way of a roster spot for the 6-foot-6, 263-pound Schwan. The Giants have a slew of experienced players fighting for roster spots behind starters Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon. Schwan doesn't even offer a cheaper alternative in most instances because many of the backup defensive end options are on affordable contracts.
Schwan was slowed by a high-ankle injury early in his redshirt senior season, but he came on strong with 32 tackles and six sacks to earn third-team All-Big Ten honors.
It's highly unlikely that Schwan will be able to jump to the front of the backup defensive end logjam.
