The Giants kept Maponga on their practice squad all last season and then signed him to a futures contract, so they clearly like the 26 year old. Maponga shifted from defensive end to outside linebacker this spring. That should help his odds of making the team because the Giants are much thinner at linebacker than defensive end.
Maponga has a shot to make the team if he can demonstrate pass-rushing ability from his new outside linebacker spot this summer. But that may be a tall task for a player who hasn't shown much at defensive end in his first four seasons.
