EAST RUTHERFORD -- Jadar Johnson's NFL career is over before it began.

The Giants rookie announced his retirement on Sunday three days into his first training camp. Giants coach Ben McAdoo said Johnson was "ill" when asked about his absence from Saturday's practice.

"After seriously weighing his options, Jadar has decided to retire from football today to pursue other interests," Johnson's agent, Trey Robinson, said in an email to NJ Advance Media. "This was not an easy decision for him to make, but it is the right decision for him.
