Giants injury report: Darian Thompson exits and hits keep coming to short-handed secondary

The big picture of the Giants' primary position battle did not get any clearer in the first preseason game.

If anything, it was the opposite.

Curtis Riley did not play due to injury and Darian Thompson left the game with a hamstring injury suffered on special teams, according to head coach Pat Shurmur. Riley and Thompson are listed as the first- and second-teamers at free safety on the official depth chart.

William Gay, a cornerback during his 11-year NFL career, has played some free safety in training camp but he also missed the game due to injury.
