The New York Giants are working their way down to 53, and not every move is going to sit well with fans. Among Tuesday’s early roster cuts, defensive lineman Elijah Chatman was one of the first surprises to hit the wire. And depending on how the rest of the day plays out, it might end up being the biggest shock of them all.
Per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan, Chatman has been released after spending the summer working with the starting defense and taking reps at fullback in the preseason. The move comes after what looked like a secure roster bid for the former undrafted free agent out of SMU, who was widely seen as one of the most versatile and physical players on the roster bubble.
