Giants' defense has limited the big plays through first two weeks

With about one and a half minutes left in the first half of Sunday’s Giants-Saints game, Drew Brees dropped back and hit rookie receiver Michael Thomas on pass over the middle for a gain of 23 yards. It brought the Saints across midfield and into field goal range for what would eventually become a 39-yard field goal with seven seconds left to make the score 7-3.

A rather unremarkable play, really, in the scheme of things.

Which is what makes it stand out so much.

That pass play, it turns out, was the longest play the Giants’ defense has allowed this season.
