Giants’ Corey Ballentine hits field quietly month after tragedy

The shooting death of former Washburn University football player Dwane Simmons, an incident that left teammate and friend Corey Ballentine wounded hours after he was drafted by the Giants, remains unsolved.

“At this time there are no additional updates in the Simmons/Ballentine case other than that our investigators continue to work strong leads in the case,” the Topeka Police Department said Tuesday in a statement.

Ballentine, who was shot in the buttocks, participated in team drills at Tuesday’s OTA for the first time. He has told team officials he would let them know when he is ready to talk about the tragedy.
