Pat Shurmur likes to say he hopes every player let go by the Giants catches on with a new team.
What the coach doesn’t say — and it only would be human nature to feel this way — is whether a twinge of regret bubbles up inside when he sees those ex-Giants go on to make a bigger impact than expected and leave a what-if feeling behind. He will come face-to-face with that reality Sunday against the Lions.
“It is true: If a guy leaves our building, we want him to go have success somewhere else,” Shurmur said.
