NFL cities can’t be much farther away from each other than East Rutherford and Santa Clara, but the Giants and 49ers feel as close as division rivals.
Of course, a lot of it has to do with their postseason meetings that have become the stuff of legend, including two NFC Championship Games that sent the Giants on their way to world championships in Super Bowls XXV and XLVI.
But in recent memory, the Giants haven’t played anyone outside the NFC East more frequently than the 49ers.
The two NFC cornerstones, which combined have claimed nine of the 49 Super Bowl titles, will meet for the fifth time in five seasons on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium.
