Detroit Lions make former Giants TE Dan Campbell their next head coach

There were reports over the past week that New Orleans Saints’ assistant head coach/tight ends coach Dan Campbell was going to likely become the Detroit Lions’ next head coach.

Well, it is now official. Campbell got a six-year deal on Wednesday, which is unheard of. Coaches typically get 4-5 year deals, not a contract for six years.

Campbell has been an impressive coach during his time with the Miami Dolphins and most recently the Saints and certainly deserves this job with the Lions.

Campbell of course played for the New York Giants from 1999-2002, where he played under Saints’ head coach Sean Payton at the time who was an assistant coach for Big Blue.
