Ballentine was selected by the New York Giants in the sixth round of the draft out of the division II school Washburn College. He was then unexpectedly shot the morning after being drafted, alongside his teammate and best friend Dwane Simmons, who unfortunately passed away.
The rookie cornerback was shot in the backside, but is expected to make a full recovery, although the timetable for his return is still unknown. Ballentine was not present at rookie minicamp during the first weekend of May due to the team urging him to remain with his family and attend his close friend’s funeral, which was at the same time.
