It is doubtful Landon Collins spent the past month talking to himself, as that might have caused those around him to wonder about his mental health. But for the Giants to hit the ground running this summer, Collins has to report Thursday to training camp with enhanced communication skills and as a more polished rookie than he was this spring.
Not that Collins disappointed the Giants in any way during the organized team activity practices or minicamp, but they need him to be something he is not. The coaching staff needs Collins to be a starter sooner rather than later — like for the very first game — and thus he does not have much time to shed the typical first-year growing pains and take command of the back end of the defense.
