The last time the Giants picked in the Top 10 they landed Eli Manning. This time they landed someone who can help keep him upright for the final few years of his career.
With the ninth overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night, the Giants selected Miami offensive lineman Ereck Flowers, one of the top-rated linemen on their board. They were actually eyeing Iowa lineman Brandon Scherff, but Washington foiled their plans by selecting him at No. 5.
Flowers is quite the consolation prize, though, considering some scouts considered him the best long-term tackle prospect in the draft.
