Al Michaels spent 12 years in the broadcast booth with the late Frank Gifford, and during Sunday night's Hall of Fame preseason game, he said goodbye and honored the former Giant's career.

Michaels called Gifford — who died Sunday at 84 — "a very special man" during his on-air tribute.

"You had to live in New York during the '50s and '60s to truly understand what a gigantic figure Frank Gifford was; he was right there with Mickey Mantle," Michaels said of the Hall of Famer who spent 12 seasons with the Giants.

Gifford worked for CBS and then ABC, which led to his 27-year "Monday Night Football career.
