Giants VS. Cowboys Preview, NYG Last in Cap Space & Best NFL RB: Saquon VS. Zeke I Giants News

The Giants regular season kick-offs with yet another matchup with familiar foe the Dallas Cowboys, the sixth time the two teams have met week 1 in the last eight years. New York is in danger of losing it’s fifth straight game to Dallas but make no mistake, this is not the same old Giants team that Dallas has played in the past. Last year, the offensive line allowed 7 sacks in the matchups against the Cowboys. Thanks to the additions of Kevin Zeitler and Mike Remmers, Manning should be able to stay on his feet and distribute the ball better. While Odell Beckham Jr. is now in a Browns uniform and Golden Tate is suspended, look for Evan Engram to step up and for Saquon Barkely to have a major impact both on the ground and in the air. NFL Now host Nick Dias breaks down the keys to winning on Sunday.

IN THE VIDEO ABOVE AND BELOW, you see that Saquon Barkley’s rookie season got off to a slow start, rushing for only 28 yards in the first game against Dallas, but he proved to be a threat in the receiving game averaging 5.7 yards a catch. With Ezekiel Elliot’s holdout finally over thanks to his monster 6-year, $90 million extension, two of the league’s best running backs will duke it out for bragging rights of who is the best. Barkley explained, “When you see that guy across the field, you want to prove you’re that best back, and what better way to do it than be on the same field?” So, who’s the better RB: Saquon Barkley or Ezekiel Elliott? That'll be decided in the matchup which airs Sunday at 4:25 ET on FOX.

Zeke’s return to the playing field impacts the Giants beyond just week 1. With his record-breaking contract, all signs point to Saquon Barkley resetting the market yet again once his rookie contract is done. Luckily for New York, he’s not looking to get paid this year because the Giants have the worst cap situation in the NFL according to ESPN’s Field Yates. Thanks to Dave Gettleman and the NYG Front Office, the team has about $34.5 million in dead cap space mostly in part to OBJ and Olivier Vernon. Don’t freak out just yet. Yes, it’s not ideal but come 2020, the Giants are projected to have $60 MM plus in cap space-- good for 7th most in the league.
