Pat Shurmur and the New York Giants coaching staff will have to cut their roster from 90 to 53 in less than a week. With the preseason finale left to play, there is still some time for change but let’s project a 53-man roster for the New York Giants. With depth at wide receiver, offensive line and cornerback, here’s a position by position breakdown from NFL Daily host Nick Dias.

Evan Engram is poised for a breakout season. With Sterling Shepard still recovering from a broken thumb and Golden Tate suspended for the first four weeks, look for Engram to step up in a big way. In fact, Engram might be the best player on this Giants team not named Saquon Barkley. Speaking of the 2018 rookie of the year, Barkley could top his 2,028 all-purpose yard season thanks to depth at offensive line. With the additions of Kevin Zeitler and Mike Remmers at right guard and right tackle respectively, the offensive line rebuild is complete. Which big men missed the cut?

IN THE VIDEO ABOVE AND BELOW, Eli Manning is another player that will benefit from a much improved offensive line. Manning is listed as the Week 1 starter but Daniel Jones is nipping at his heels. The #6 overall pick has impressed throughout the preseason and will start in the last preseason game vs. the New England Patriots. So who checks in at QB3: Alex Tanney or Kyle Lauletta? The New York Giants will have a tough decision to make when it comes to selecting wide receivers. They’re committed long-term to Shepard and Tate will help out come week 5, but who else makes a splash? Codey Latimer or Bennie Fowler or is it rookie Darius Slayton?

Cornerback went from one of the Giants’ biggest weaknesses last season to one of the stronger positions on the roster thanks to Janoris Jenkins, De’Andre Baker and Grant Haley. Corey Ballentine has been balling too and could push for playing time early in the season due to his speed and his knack for making quick adjustments. Nick has the Giants keeping 5 CB on the roster, so now the question becomes who starts opposite of Jenkins?

B.J. Goodson was expected to be a starter coming into the season, but is his time with the Giants coming to an end? Goodson has appeared to be the odd-man-out during the preseason despite being thin at the linebacker position. Defensive line is also another question mark, only accounting for 30 sacks last season.
