Super Bowl 46 a Record for Sports Gambling

Gambling on Super Bowl XLVI is said to be a record for the Las Vegas casinos when numbers are revealed later today. Estimates are that over $90 million was wagered by people in Las Vegas on yesterday's game. The previous record was $87.5 million last season for the Packer-Steelers match up.

Additionally, a source at the best online sportsbooks have told us that wagers online for the Giants-Patriots thriller saw another $100 million in wagers. Wrap your head around that number. $190 million was on the line when Tom Brady heaved a last-gasp passing attempt at his 4th Super Bowl ring towards the end zone as time expired.

Had a Patriots receiver caught the ball, the casinos and sportsbook websites would have lost money for only the third time in the last 20 years. The public money was overwhelmingly on the New York Giants, who were 3 point underdogs. While the general public was ion favor of the Giants, professional bettors game in late with large wagers on the Patriots, evening out the amount wagered on each team, leaving the sportsbooks with a profit of off the vig and on other prop bets such as who will win the coin flip.

The most notable non-bet from yesterday was rapper Birdman. The Cash-Money rapper boasted that he would bet $5 million on the Patriots and his nephew, Pats RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Birdman today tweeted that no one would accept a bet of that magnitude. His claim of no action had been preemted last week by BetOnline brand manager Dave Mason who boasted in a statement that his company would gladly accept a wager of that amount and encouraged Birdman to sign up for an account and contact him directly to ensure the bet was made. Alas, Biradman looks a tad cowardly today.

So, sports fans, did YOU make any money yesterday?
