NYCFC will have to play without David Villa again

There will be no chants of “Villa Maravilla” from New York City FC fans on Saturday.

Just three days after NYCFC squeaked past Sporting Kansas City without David Villa, they will face a similar test against the Portland Timbers at Yankee Stadium (5:30 p.m.; YES), as the star forward will miss his second straight game because of an injury, according to head coach Patrick Vieira.

Villa, who at 35 made a return to the Spanish national team, suffered an adductor injury while in training with Spain last Sunday.

NYCFC, battered by injuries all season long, also will be without midfielder Yangel Herrera, who was injured while playing for Venezuela’s national team Tuesday.
