NYCFC U17 come up short in penalty shootout

New York City FC U17 drew Tigres UANL U17 yesterday by a score of 1-1 in the Generation adidas Cup Quarterfinals in Frisco, TX, but failed to advance after losing the ensuing penalty shootout. NYCFC U17 converted four penalties, while Tigres U17 converted five.

It was a disappointing finish to what had been a strong showing by New York City at the preeminent youth soccer competition in North America. NYCFC U17 amassed a solid 4-1-1 record over the course of the tournament, with six goals scored and four goals allowed.

The highlight of NYCFC U17’s performance at the GA Cup was the knockout match against Charlotte FC U17: Midfielder Mikhail Zaretser scored in the 17th minute off a short corner set-piece, then goalkeeper Alexander Yagudayev preserved the win by saving a penalty in stoppage time.
