New York City FC announced Tuesday wingback Ronald Matarrita has signed a contract extension using Target Allocation Money to return for a third season with the club.
The Costa Rican international told The Post that the time was right for an extension. He’s enjoyed his time in New York and his spot on the team could help him prepare for this summer’s World Cup in Russia, which Costa Rica qualified for.
“I’ve felt I had some good years with New York City FC since I came here,” Matarrita said through a translator. “That was a big part [in my decision].
