Last night, New York City defeated New England Revolution in extra time in the US Open Cup Round of 16 behind a 94th minute goal by Santiago Rodríguez. NYCFC will advance to the quarterfinals for just the second time in club history, where they will face New Jersey Red Bulls on June 21 or 22.
It wasn't a surprising result. NYCFC fielded a strong squad that was a combination of Senior Team starters and NYCFC II players, while New England mostly played backup players.
