New York City FC dodged a defensive headache next season.
Defender Maxime Chanot vowed he’s committed to NYCFC, even stating he’s open to a possible contract extension, after a report surfaced that the centerback wanted to return to Belgium in the winter.
“I’m 200 percent focused on New York City,” Chanot said Wednesday. “There’s no point at all to go back to Europe. For people who know me, I’m someone who never quits. I signed here to help the team reach a championship and as long we don’t get it, I won’t leave the club.”
Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws reported that Chanot, 27, eyed a return to Europe at the end of the season because of “family reasons.
