If you’re an NYCFC supporter, you were well aware of the lack of depth heading into last night’s match vs. Sporting KC. Due to suspensions, international duty and injuries, New York City were not able to pick a full team sheet. In most cases, a club has 11 players on the field and seven on the bench adding up to a full 18; on Wednesday, NYCFC only had six bench players. Two of the slots were maintained by goalkeepers who will realistically probably not touch the pitch once the ref blows the opening whistle, one spot on the bench was filled by 17-year-old James Sands, who has yet to make an appearance for the club, and the last three slots were filled by players who totaled just 206 minutes combined heading into Wednesday’s match.
