Heading into the 2017 season, fans were super excited that Yangel Herrera was joining us on a season long loan. However, early in the season, he wasn’t getting the minutes the fans were hoping for. With the decline of Pirlo, Vieira decided to give the teenager a chance, and Herrera did not disappoint. His first start for the club was in late April in Columbus where he grabbed a goal and an assist. He then went on to captain his Venezuelan side to the U-20 World Cup final where he was arguably the best player at the tournament.
