It was supposed to be a quiet one— thanks to conditions attached to their acquisition of Kwadwo Poku’s MLS rights from the Seattle Sounders, NYCFC had to part with its first round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
This afternoon, the Bronx Blues’ front office bollocked all of that, and the universe sighed its magical sigh.
Not long after swooping in for Chicago’s #3 overall pick to draft Akron attacking man Jonathan Lewis, New York City sent $75,000 in allocation funds to Seattle for pick #16, which became Kwame Awuah of the Connecticut Huskies.
That’s right: NYCFC snatched back the very same pick they surrendered in the Poku deal.
