Before the start of the season, I sketched out the best- and worst-case scenarios for every New York City FC player in 2017. Some of my best-cases were pretty rosy. I’ll admit that straight away. For instance, here’s what I wrote about one Maxime Chanot:

While the league’s annual Best XI tends to showcase center-halves and tends not to acknowledge the existence of the fullback position (pre-emptive apologies to Joevin Jones), Chanot is pretty likely to find himself on the outside looking in when MLS honors are handed down at the end of the year.
