New York City F.C. head coach Domenec Torrent barely knows his new home well enough to find a good Japanese restaurant.
“Don’t forget [Manchester City manager] Pep [Guardiola] lived here [for] one year, and right now Pep knows more restaurants than me,” Torrent said ahead of his close friend’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool at MetLife Stadium Wednesday night.
But that inexperience doesn’t extend to soccer. The Spaniard served as an assistant under Guardiola at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City before departing for NYCFC this summer.
Wednesday’s Premier League showdown was a glimpse of what Torrent envisions for his new team, as both teams turned up the pressure in the second half Wednesday to give fans an attacking showcase.
