David Villa nets pair to help put NYCFC back atop standings

After suffering their first loss of the season, New York City FC bounced right back. And they did it with a milestone performance from David Villa.

Villa scored twice to power a 3-1 win over previously unbeaten FC Dallas on Sunday night before 22,115 at Yankee Stadium. The victory put NYCFC back atop the MLS standings, and the goals lifted the Spanish icon into stratospheric company.

The NYCFC captain scored his 400th career goal for club and country on a tiebreaking 36th-minute penalty kick. He joined an august quintet, with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Galaxy star Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the only other active players with 400 tallies.
