For now, things are moving ahead as expected for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Brees underwent a surgical procedure on Wednesday in Los Angeles to repair an injured ligament in his throwing hand, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that surgery went perfectly. Brees and the Saints have anticipated a six-week recovery timeline throughout the process, and that remains the expectation. He’ll remain in L.A. for a few days before rejoining the team.
Saints coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that the Saints do not plan to place Brees on the injured reserve list, despite his lack of availability; to do so would sideline him eight weeks, rather than six.
