It’s rare to see the New Orleans Saints roll into the regular season with just two tight ends; they routinely carry three or even four of them at the position, and have led the NFL in three-tight end sets played in recent years. But right now, just two true tight ends are on the roster between Jared Cook and Josh Hill.
But if you were to ask Saints head coach Sean Payton about that thin talent pool, he’d say they have a secret weapon waiting in the wings: do-it-all athlete Taysom Hill, a nominal reserve quarterback. Hill split time at seven different positions in 2018, per Pro Football Focus charting, and logged almost as many reps when lined up at tight end as at quarterback.
