METAIRIE, La. - The New Orleans Saints have added another veteran insurance policy to their backfield, agreeing to a deal with former New York Giants and New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen, a source confirmed.
The deal was first reported by the NFL Network.
The Saints also signed veteran running back Terrance West last month as they seek a temporary replacement for Mark Ingram during Ingram's four-game suspension to start the season.
Second-year pro Alvin Kamara will be New Orleans' leading man in the backfield.
