METAIRIE, La. -- Although the New Orleans Saints decided to shelve running back C.J. Spiller for the rest of the 2015 season, coach Sean Payton said Thursday the team is still hopeful he can return to form in 2016.
Payton reiterated that Spiller was placed on injured reserve because he never got full strength back in his leg following arthroscopic surgery on his knee in the preseason -- something vital for a player who relies on explosion and cutting ability like Spiller does.
“He’s someone that I know we as an organization -- certainly myself as a head coach and working with the offense -- are excited to see that through,” Payton said.
