Saintstory, Darren Sharper 2009: ‘He who must not be named’

Darren Sharper signed on to join the Saints as a free agent from the Minnesota Vikings on March 18, 2009, and was with the club until the end of the 2010 Season. The 2010 Season was almost a complete wash though. Offseason surgery and complications meant he only played in eight games and only started one.

What we’re talking about for our Saintstory series is 2009. Then quiet until, on February 28, 2014, the story veers off down an ugly path that has left the Darren Sharper story an untouchable topic.

Before we get into it, it’s important to know that Darren Sharper was sentenced to a 20-year prison term in Louisiana to run concurrently with an 18-year federal prison sentence for 16 separate instances where he drugged and raped women across four states.
