Saints trade up again, draft Gators S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson

The New Orleans Saints traded up again in the 2019 NFL Draft, sending their fourth round pick (No. 116) and their fifth round pick (No. 168) to the New York Jets in exchange for No. 105. They then picked Florida Gators safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

Gardner-Johnson probably won’t play much in 2019, if he makes the team — the Saints cut all but two of their rookies from last year’s draft class. New Orleans took just 80-odd snaps with three safeties on the field last year, and are so deep at cornerback that former starters like Ken Crawley may not survive roster cuts.
