The New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars completed a trade, exchanging offensive lineman Luke Fortner for defensive tackle Khalen Saunders. The trade will help both squads bolster their depth, at positions that they are need of.
Fortner could be used as a backup center to Erick McCoy and will fill anywhere along the line in case of an injury. He will also have the opportunity to get important reps in the teams final preseason game versus the Denver Broncos.
It's no guarantee Fortner will make the roster. Undrafted free agent Torricelli Simpkins III has played well. This trade moves Simpkins back over to guard, but he shouldn't be left out of the backup center conversation if Fortner doesn't immediately impress.
