Saints release Dannell Ellerbe from injured reserve

Dannell Ellerbe's tenure with the New Orleans Saints is officially over.

One month after placing the veteran linebacker on injured reserve, the team terminated Ellerbe's contract on Friday, according to the NFL transaction wire.

Ellerbe would've had to be deemed healthy before the Saints could release him, and now he's free to sign with another team.

Due to a foot injury, Ellerbe was unable to pass a physical before training camp began in July. The 31-year-old has dealt with multiple injuries since arriving in New Orleans via a trade with the Miami Dolphins in 2015, and even though he was expected to recover from his latest injury before the season begins, the team decided to move on.
