Saints' Drew Brees surprises Houston-area students at Verizon event

HOUSTON -- As a group of 10- to 14-year-olds learned about a virtual reality football game, they had no idea one of the top players in the NFL was about to play with them.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees surprised about 15 underserved Houston-area children Wednesday at an event at the Verizon tent near the Super Bowl 51 headquarters at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

In conjunction with the Verizon Foundation and Texas Southern University, Brees met with the children to help excite them about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

"To be in a position where you can have an influence on them and be a role model for them in something that's outside the game of football specifically, I think it's cool because here we are talking about science and technology and math," Brees said.
