Rookie punter Blake Gillikin has a real role at Saints training camp

An unusual preseason has sent NFL teams scrambling in training camp, working quickly to adjust and prepare their players for a season that won’t look very familiar due to COVID-19. The pandemic has struck every NFL team, but the New Orleans Saints are one squad that’s ended up in a surprisingly strong spot.

That’s due to rookie punter Blake Gillikin, an undrafted free agent out of Penn State who joined the Saints despite the presence of Thomas Morstead. Morstead, an 11-year veteran, isn’t really threatened by the rookie’s presence (even if it’s the first time he’s shared training camp with another punter since his own rookie year).
