Panthers put Cam Newton on injured reserve, won't play Saints in 2019

The Carolina Panthers placed starting quarterback Cam Newton on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said in a statement that while Newton has been diligent in receiving treatment on his injured foot, he has continued to feel pain despite weeks of rest and rehab. Hurney added, “(Newton) saw two foot specialists last week who agreed that he should continue that path prescribed by the team’s medical staff, and that it likely will take significant time for the injury to fully heal.”

This means that Newton will not play in either of the Panthers’ two games with the New Orleans Saints this year, giving backup quarterback Kyle Allen the start on Nov.
