Today’s New Orleans Saints fans are enjoying the greatest period in team history. The Saints have won 10 or more games in a season only 12 times since the team was founded in 1967, and seven of those seasons have happened since Sean Payton was hired as head coach in 2006. The Saints won their first Super Bowl title under Payton, as well as their first road playoff game. His arrival (along with that of Hall of Fame-bound quarterback Drew Brees) was a momentous shift for the franchise.
But don’t let that recent success overwrite the history of great players to suit up in black and gold.
