Although I have suggested that the Saints should not be buyers at the trade deadline, it was always obvious that they would in fact continue to go “all-in” for a Super Bowl championship.
That doesn’t make their trade for linebacker Kwon Alexander not surprising, however. Not only did it appear that team had far greater holes to fill, but it is interesting to see the 49ers help out an NFC contender.
Alexander will head to New Orleans in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick and linebacker Kiko Alonso.
If Alexander meets his playing time requirements, the pick goes from a 2022 selection to one from the 2021 draft.
