Losing tight end Benjamin Watson highlights major offseason need for Saints

On Thursday, Dec. 27, Saints tight end Benjamin Watson announced he’d be retiring at the conclusion of the 2018 Season. The Saints have been struggling with the tight end position since Watson was let go to free agency following the 2015 Season. It’s something that needs to be seriously addressed in 2019.

After Watson’s first departure, on the heels of his best year as a pro, the Saints made the questionable move to invest in Coby Fleener. A tight end who, with the Colts, had been fairly successful but who had played with only one quarterback, Andrew Luck, as a pro in Indianapolis and through college at Stanford.
