It was a tough rookie season for New Orleans Saints quarterback J.T. Barrett. The former Ohio State Buckeyes starter wasn’t tasked with any really challenging assignments; instead, he was asked to be a yo-yo, bouncing on and off of the roster 25 times between the first contract he signed with the team (May 1) and the last time he joined them, days before the NFC title game (January 19). That instability had to wear on him.
With Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater, and Taysom Hill positioned ahead of him, it was also hard for Barrett to get practice time when he was on the squad.
