Cardell Hayes-Will Smith trial: 5 things learned Tuesday

Testimony in the trial of Cardell Hayes for the fatal shooting of Will Smith began Tuesday (Dec. 6). Here are five things learned on the day:

1. Will Smith's gun wasn't out

NOPD homicide detective Robert Bachelder testified that Will Smith's unfired 9mm handgun was found by investigators tucked between the driver's seat and center console of wife Racquel's silver Mercedes-Benz SUV. The gun was still in its holster, Bachelder said, and investigators uncovered no evidence that any weapon other than Cardell Hayes' .45-caliber Ruger had been fired in the fatal April 9 confrontation in the Lower Garden District.
