The New Orleans Saints clearly want to reinforce their backfield, having met with free agent running back Theo Riddick and filled out the depth chart by signing Robert Kelley. They’ve also lost Javorius Allen to injured reserve early in training camp. Latavius Murray, their big free agent addition, was held out of several practice sessions early on but returned on Thursday.
But there’s a wrinkle here. It’s not enough to just add another running back; it needs to be someone with the set of skills. The Saints have plenty of options to just run it up the middle between Murray, Kelley, Dwayne Washington, and undrafted rookie Devine Ozigbo.
